Live From Austin

I caught this episode of Austin City Limits once in the wee hours of the night, and I was psyched to see that it was finally available on CD. The show was taped shortly after the release of Look Into the Eyeball and the setlist reflects this, with 4 songs coming off that album. The other songs are a mix of Talking Heads songs, both obscure and popular, with the obligatory inclusions of Once in a Lifetime and Life During Wartime.

The album is great because it captures that point in time when David eschewed keyboards and in their place put a string trio. It makes for interesting takes on all of the tracks. Probably the best part of this album is that it finally makes David's cover of I Wanna Dance With Somebody commercially available.

As great as David Byrne/Talking Heads are on albums it is their live shows that make them special. Check this album out.
