Oranges and Lemons
XTC is one of those 80s bands who kept plugging away even though they got little recognition. Probably because Andy Partrige's stage fright kept them from picking up a bigger following by touring, or maybe because their music is just weird.
Oranges and Lemons was XTC's biggest album, mostly thanks to the radio friendliness of Mayor of Simpleton and King for a Day. And while Mayor of Simpleton is probably XTC's best song, the rest of the album is worth a listen. It's most akin to Sgt Pepper era Beatles, with weird melodies and big production, but there seems to be twinges of acid jazz in there too, which makes for an interesting album.
