When Warren Zevon was diagnosed with cancer he decided to refuse any treatment and just ride it out. As a swan song, he got together with a bunch of friends (including Jackson Browne, his longtime songwriting partner Jorge Calderon, Ry Cooder, Emmylou Harris, Don Henley, David Lindley, Tom Petty, Timothy B. Schmit, Tommy Shaw, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Bob Thornton, Joe Walsh and Dwight Yoakam) and released this album.
Although it only gained notoriety for having a VH1 special filmed about its recording, it is one of Zevon's best albums. It's really sad that his brand of wry humor and sarcasm was lost on mainstream audiences. I still crack up everytime I hear the intro to Numb as a Statue.
