Alex Skolnick Trio

Club Cafe

I was psyched up when i say that former Testament and Savatage guitarist Alex Skolnick's improvisational Jazz Trio was in town. The show was at the Club Cafe, which is a little bar in the South Side that has an amazing sound system. When I got to the bar, there was a salad sitting at the stool next to the one i took which ended up being Alex's...which is fab. The best part about the Skolnick's new direction is that they played long jazzed up versions of some great metal tunes, like the Scorpions' No One Like You, and Kiss's Detroit Rock City. They ended the show with a 15 minute interpretation of Sabbath's War Pigs, which was great, mostly because i didna have to hear Ozzy's whiny lyrics.

Concert Highlight: Meeting Alex Skolnick by way of sitting next to his chicken salad at the bar.
